NBA Harden changes Brooklyn picture overnight
The Brooklyn Nets have emerged as NBA title contenders overnight thanks to the arrival of James Harden from the Houston Rockets.
The multiple NBA all-star joins the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving at the Nets, making them serious contenders to the LA Lakers‘ crown.
The Lakers have stars of their own, of course, with LeBron James as talisman and Anthony Davis as a support act.
Whereas Harden and Durant are fairly evenly matched with LeBron and Davis, Irving is a much better third option than what the Lakers possess. Over a shorter series in NBA finals, the Lakers could outgun the Nets but, over a longer series, the balance could shift in the latter’s favour because of the youth of their team.
The Lakers have a great starting five, which includes LeBron, Davis, Dannis Schroder, Kentavious-Caldwell Pope and Marc Gasol. However, the Nets’ quintet of Harden, Irving, Durant, Joe Harris and DeAndre Jordan is superior.
Over the course of their title-winning campaign, the Lakers could call upon the likes of Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews, Kyle Kuzma and Alex Caruso. As for the Nets, Landry Shamet, Spencer Dinwiddie and Jeff Green are other strong points of their roster but it’s not as impressive as the Lakers.
Frank Vogel deserves a lot of credit for guiding the Lakers to the NBA title in 2020. He was an unpopular choice in Los Angeles to start with but has won over the fans. The Nets’ Steve Nash isn’t quite as experienced as his counterpart.
