FC Barcelona – La Liga Wants to emulate the situation
Joan Laporta has reminded both Barcelona and Real Madrid fans that Los Blancos did not manage to clinch any Champions League trophies during his tenure as the Catalan club’s president.
The Barcelona presidential candidate also claimed that if he wins the upcoming elections, he will try to take the Blaugrana back to the pinnacle of European football.
“When I was [Barcelona] president, Real Madrid did not win a Champions League, “Laporta told the Catalan show ‘Desmarcats’.
“So, if I get elected I hope to reverse the situation again.”
Laporta went on to also send a message towards Paris Saint-Germain who are reportedly interested in signing Lionel Messi on a free transfer this summer.
“I have read that PSG present [financial] losses and we will talk about whether they can carry out [transfers] and what kind of signings,” added Laporta.
“We should be respectful with our actions and we would also ask PSG to be respectful with Barcelona and not try to destabilise us.”
Laporta also shrugged off the label of the favourite in Barcelona‘s presidential elections, which have been moved to March 7 due to COVID-19 restrictions in Catalonia.
“We are going [to the elections] with a winning morale, because we are working to try to win, but I neither feel like a favourite nor [like] a winner,” Laporta noted. “It would be disrespectful.”
