Leicester considering shock move for Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen

Leicester City are weighing up a sensational January move for out-of-favour Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international has endured a turbulent time at San Siro since his January 2020 move from Tottenham Hotspur. In little under a year in Italy, Eriksen has mustered just 12 Serie A starts and a solitary league goal for the club.

The 28-year-old looks destined to depart the Nerazzurri, with a number of Premier League sides – including former employers Spurs and north London rivals Arsenal – said to be monitoring the midfielder.

Inter are keen to offload Eriksen as soon as possible in order to make room on the wage bill for new arrivals, and The Telegraph report that Leicester City have now joined the race for his signature.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have enjoyed a superb first half to the season and currently find themselves well in the mix for the Premier League title. Their 2-0 win over struggling Chelsea on Tuesday evening saw them briefly sit top of the table, though they’ve since slipped down to third after both Manchester United and Manchester City won their games in hand.

The Foxes are understood to be considering a temporary deal for the Danish midfielder, with Inter prepared to entertain any loan offers which include Eriksen’s full £3.5m salary (after tax) being covered.

Like many other clubs, Leicester have seen their finances stretched due to the loss of matchday revenue because of the coronavirus pandemic, however the club did manager to shift Islam Slimani off the wage bill earlier this month as he joined Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Both Demarai Gray and Hamza Choudhury have also been linked with moves away from the King Power Stadium this month, and if the pair do decide to move on then Leicester could be one step closer to landing Eriksen.
