Real Madrid | Transfer Market PSG trying to get stars to renew
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has not been afraid to potentially ruffle the feathers of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
Both forwards’ contracts come to an end in 2022 and PSG are looking to get them to renew, and Leonardo has warned that they are unlikely to receive better offers from elsewhere.
“Choosing between Neymar or Mbappe? It is true that the situation is very complicated, but if PSG do not have the means right now to be able to keep its two stars, which team has the capacity to pay the salary of either player? I don’t think any team,” Leonardo said in an interview with France Football.
The talks with Mbappe have not advanced how PSG would have liked, while Mauricio Pochettino has also made some decisions that have not been to the 22-year-old’s liking.
In addition, PSG dream of luring Lionel Messi to the Parc des Princes when his contract expires in June, so if Neymar and Mbappe want to play with him, they would have to take a pay cut in order for the club to not breach FFP rules.
This friction with Mbappe could work in Real Madrid‘s favour, though, as he will have just one year left on his contract in the summer. The Frenchman is one of Los Blancos‘ dream signings, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
