Lille 1-7 PSG: Mbappe nets hat-trick as Les Parisiens rack up the goals again

Paris Saint-Germain continued their rampant start to the new Ligue 1 season by putting seven more goals past 2021 champions Lille.

After five goals against both Clermont and Montpellier in their opening two games, PSG raced into a 4-0 lead by half-time at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Growing speculation over a feud between Kylian Mbappe and Neymar was put on the backburner, with the former needing less than a minute to break the deadlock.

Lionel Messi had laid on the first goal for Mbappe and then turned scorer himself with just under half an hour on the clock, finding the bottom corner after a pass from Nuno Mendes.

The third goal saw Achraf Hakimi score from a narrow angle on the right, assisted by Neymar, who then then got in on the act himself by netting the fourth. Hakimi returned the favour from the first half soon after the interval when he set up Neymar for PSG’s fifth of the night.

Jonathan Bamba actually pulled one back for Lille more or less straightaway, but PSG weren’t done with their own scoring. Mbappe went on to complete his hat-trick with two more goals, both laid on by Neymar and both from just left of centre in the penalty area.

Only three weeks into the campaign, PSG already look as though the Ligue 1 title will be theirs come May. The reigning champions are the only side with a 100% record still intact and have opened up a two-point gap over Lens and Marseille.

Their defence isn’t bulletproof, but it will be tough for anyone to stop them scoring.
