Lindsey Horan out of 2022 SheBelieves Cup

US women’s national team player Lindsey Horan will miss out on the 2022 SheBelieves Cup after picking up a knee injury.

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski confirmed Horan is to be replaced by Racing Louisville midfielder Jaelin Howell.

Horan will continue to come to training camp for evaluation by the USWNT medical staff.

The tournament kicks off on February 17 as the American side faces the Czech Republic, New Zealand and Iceland over the course of one week. The games will be played at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas and the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Horan’s injury is a huge blow to the US team. She’s become an integral part of the USWNT’s success, helping the side lift the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy. The two-time Olympias has recorded 25 goals in 108 appearances.

Andonovski opted for young 22-year-old Howell to come in for Horan, a rookie player on the international scale with only two caps for the USWNT. Howell debuted with the national team against the Netherlands in November of 2020, and played one match at last year’s SheBelieves Cup.

She was the second overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft and a two-time winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy.
