Lionel Messi hosted a dinner with close friends at his home in Barcelona after it emerged the legendary forward would not continue at Camp Nou.
La Blaugrana’s sickening summer resulted in the unthinkable on Thursday as it emerged Messi would not be able to sign a new contract with the club due to their poor financial situation, with Paris Saint-Germain the side most likely to sign him up.
Aguero posted a picture on Instagram of himself alongside Messi with the caption: “All the best in whatever comes my friend. And always with that smile. I love you pa.”
The pair won’t get to play alongside each other this season. Aguero saw his contract at Manchester City expire before plotting his move to Catalonia, but now has a lot of the side’s goalscoring burden to take on with Messi’s sudden departure.
We are due to hear Messi’s side of the story when he speaks at a press conference on Sunday. The Argentina icon has spent 21 years with Barcelona and his farewell address to the club and its fans is expected to be emotional.
Once that is all done, it’s thought his slated move to PSG could speed up.
When asked after PSG’s 2-1 victory over Troyes whether his side were moving for Messi, manager Mauricio Pochettino remained characteristically tight lipped, stating as quoted by Sky Sports: “His name is associated with different clubs, there are plenty of rumours.
“We will see what happens in the coming days.”
Should such a move come off, it would immediately make PSG one of the top favourites for the Champions League after a summer of active recruitment. Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma have all been brought in already this summer.
