Luis Suarez to Miss Barcelona Clash After Positive COVID-19 Test

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has become the latest high-profile footballer to contract Covid-19 while on international duty, and will miss Saturday’s visit of Barcelona as a result.

The viability of international football in the middle of a pandemic has been called into question recently, but FIFA and UEFA have pressed ahead, with players asked to stay within their social bubbles when travelling abroad to prevent the spread of the virus.

Nonetheless, we’ve seen no shortage of players testing positive while playing for their countries. In this break alone, we’ve seen Egypt duo Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny contracted the virus, while Matt Doherty and James McLean both tested positive for Ireland.

Now it’s being reported that Suarez will miss the return of his former club this weekend after Uruguay returned a positive test.
