Manchester City team news

City’s injuries in central defence have eased since the defeat to Manchester United, with John Stones expected to come back into the side to partner Manuel Akanji. Ruben Dias, who hasn’t played since the World Cup, has also returned to training.

Kevin De Bruyne is a slight doubt having been missing from training on Tuesday, but is expected to make Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Manchester City predicted lineup (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Akanji, Ake; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Foden, Haaland, Grealish.

Tottenham team news

Antonio Conte is without only long term absentee Lucas Moura for Thursday’s trip to the Etihad. However, after the limp north London derby defeat, some changes could be made.

Ivan Perisic could start at left wing back, while Ben Davies may replace Clement Lenglet in Spurs’ back three. Rodrigo Bentancur is also fit again and should come into the starting XI.

Tottenham predicted lineup (3-4-3): Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic; Kulusevski, Kane, Son.

There’s no doubting the significance of Thursday’s meeting between City and Spurs. City have dominated the Premier League over the past decade but Arsenal’s run of form shows no sign of slowing and Guardiola can’t afford any more slip-ups this season.

Spurs have endured some tough moments in recent months, seemingly stuck in limbo with manager Conte, and form will have to turn around soon if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four.

This game also sees the two leading scorers in the Premier League this season collide. Erling Haaland was ineffective in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, while Harry Kane was similarly subdued in the Arsenal loss. They have 21 and 15 league goals so far this term respectively.

Tottenham pulled out one of the results of the year last February with a surprise 3-2 success at City, but a repeat result this time seems unlikely, even with the hosts’ present struggles.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Tottenham
