Man Utd identify Nordi Mukiele as transfer target following Ralf Rangnick arrival

New Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is interested in bringing RB Leipzig right-back Nordi Mukiele to Old Trafford.

Mukiele has become a regular feature of the RB Leipzig team since joining the club from Montpellier in 2018, and made his international debut for France earlier this year in a 2-0 win over Finland.

The 24-year-old’s current deal with the Bundesliga side has just over 18 months still to run, and 90min understands that Rangnick has identified the player as a target who could not only come in and improve the team straight away, but also over the course of the next few years.

Rangnick was confirmed as United’s interim manager until the end of the season earlier this week, and is due to take up a consultancy role with the club for the following two seasons, though he will not take charge of the club’s game with Arsenal on Thursday as he continues to await a work permit.

His appointment was championed and pushed by John Murtough, United‘s football director, and both were spotted by fans at Old Trafford on Wednesday inspecting the facilities.

The two are set to work together closely moving forward, and Rangnick would like to take an element of control of United’s transfer policy in January – a month of getting moves right in the market could establish his influence on club matters in the longer term.

Mukiele’s name has been brought up amid concerns over the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was signed for £50m from Crystal Palace in 2019, and United have been looking to recruit in the position for some time anyway, with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier a known target last summer.

Rangnick also likes another RB Leipzig player, Amadou Haidara, who plays in midfield and has been linked with the club in previous days.

Rangnick is soon set to sit down with the club’s scouts to assess the best options moving forward, with the immediate task at hand to improve United’s level of performance and results as they look to make up ground on the Premier League‘s top four in the coming weeks.
