The immediate future of Barcelona will be decided on Tuesday morning by the interim management committee that was put in place after Josep Maria Bartomeu‘s resignation.

There are two priority issues for the group to decide on, the first being the official date of the upcoming presidential elections for the club, and the second being the signing of Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.

Everything indicates that Carles Tusquets and his board members will decide that March 7 will be the date for elections, although there is a possibility that even this could be put back a further week.

The ability to vote by mail is a huge help to the elections, and it likely means that a March 7 date will be doable.

Ronald Koeman requested Garcia be signed in January to allow him to be used in the second half of the season, and the board must now decide on that.

It has almost been ruled out of hand that the club will make any transfer moves in the winter market, although Koeman remains determined on bringing the defender to the club now.

What is more likely, given Garcia‘s contractual situation, is that Los Cules will get in contact with the Spanish defender and secure him to a pre-contract agreement via the Bosman ruling, preventing any other club from swooping in before the summer.

Barcelona‘s perilous financial situation at this moment makes the immediate arrival of Garcia impossible, they simply can’t afford to pay Manchester City any kind of transfer fee.

The 19-year-old is willing to partly fund the deal himself by taking a pay cut in salary, but that option isn’t enough for the Blaugrana.

Whilst a mid-season move is all but impossible, Pep Guardiola confirmed on Saturday that Garcia’s future would be away from Manchester.

“He will leave in the summer for sure, but we’ll see if he does so earlier in January,” Guardiola explained.
