Swansea 1-3 Manchester City | FA Cup Won 15th straight game
Manchester City beat Swansea City 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night, which has seen Pep Guardiola‘s side break the English top-flight record for consecutive wins in all competitions with 15.
Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus all got on the scoresheet for City, as they booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
It took City until the half-hour mark to open the scoring. Walker put in a seemingly underhit cross from the right-hand side that deceived the defence and made its way past Freddie Woodman in the Swansea goal.
Just a couple of minutes after the half-time break, City doubled their lead. Swansea switched off at the back and, having lost the ball in their own half, Sterling was able to make the most of a vast gap between Connor Roberts and Joel Latibeaudiere to receive the ball and then fire into the bottom right corner.
City put the game beyond doubt three minutes later. A Swansea goal kick was played out short but they were unable to beat City’s press, which allowed Ilkay Gundogan to play a pass out for Bernardo Silva, who headed the ball across to Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian then controlled the ball, turning and spinning in one motion, before netting his seventh goal of the season.
Swansea were still able to get a consolation goal, however. Morgan Whittaker, who only joined the Welsh club from Derby County in January, came on as a second-half substitute and scored in the 77th minute, 11 minutes after he came on. The 20-year-old controlled a cross, paused and then hit a half-volley from just inside the box that made its way past Zack Steffen.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup will take place on Thursday, February 11, at approximately 20:45 CET.
