Manchester United target Pochettino to replace Solskjaer

Mauricio Pochettino is Manchester United’s top target to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the managerial role, according to Sky Sports.

After months of heavy speculation about his future, United finally confirmed today (Sunday) that they’ve parted ways with Solskjaer following a string of underwhelming results. The situation appears to have boiled over after the 4-1 defeat to relegation battlers Watford on Saturday, and an emergency meeting was held which resulted in the sacking of the Norwegian.

The 20-time English champions have put former midfielder Michael Carrick in charge of the team until they find someone to take the reins for the rest of the season, but then they apparently intend to go all out for Pochettino as a long-term solution.

At the moment, Pochettino is in charge of the team at Paris Saint-Germain and his contract does not expire before the end of the 2022-23 season, which means United would have to agree and pay a fee to the Ligue 1 giants for his services. If the former Tottenham Hotspur boss proves an impossible target, United are expected to move on to Ajax coach Erik ten Hag.
