Sassuolo and Italy star Manuel Locatelli has arrived in Turin to undergo a medical examination ahead of his long-awaited €35m move to Juventus.
The 23-year-old has been expected to complete a switch to the Italian giants all summer, but the Bianconeri were struggling to match the Neroverdi’s price tag for the midfielder.
But Juve struck a deal worth €35m plus add-ons for Locatelli on Tuesday, and the Euro 2020 winner has now landed in Turin to complete his medical. He will then put pen to paper on a five-year deal that runs until the summer of 2026.
The Old Lady posted pictures of their new signing at the club’s medical centre on Wednesday morning, and the midfielder looked particularly delighted that the transfer has finally been given the green light.
Locatelli became an instant hit over the summer, scoring twice in the group stages to fire Italy on their way to Euro 2020 glory. His superb performances led to interest from all over Europe, but the Italy international only had eyes for Juve.
He has been forced to sit tight while Juve and Sassuolo haggled over the finer details of the transfer, as the Serie A giants were initially unwilling to raise their offer above €30m. Juventus then tried to include one of their own stars as part of a player-exchange deal, but Sassuolo wanted only money for their talisman.
Locatelli’s patience has been rewarded though, after the two clubs settled on a deal worth an initial €35m, while Sassuolo could receive more in add-ons throughout his time in Turin. The midfielder has grown to become one of the stars of Italian football in recent years, shining since leaving Milan in 2018.
Now one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, Juventus will be hoping that Locatelli launches them back to the top of Serie A this season.
