The world of sport has gathered to support Fernando Alonso after the Spanish driver was hit by a vehicle while cycling in Switzerland.

The first to send their best wishes was Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, a fellow Spaniard on the grid.

“We hope it’s nothing and you recover as soon as possible,” Sainz posted.

“All the strength in the world, Fer, we’re all with you and wish you a speedy recovery,” shared basketball star Pau Gasol.

Romain Grosjean also wished him a quick recovery, himself still making his way back to action after a horrific accident in the Bahrein Grand Prix.

Spanish politicians, including Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Minister for Sport Irene Lozano also sent messages.

“We hope that the injuries from the accident are minimal,” posted Sanchez.

The official profile of Formula 1 also shared a message, with his team stating that the driver is in good health.
