Barcelona 5-1 Alaves Three goals ruled out this season
Lionel Messi had a goal disallowed by VAR for the third time in LaLiga Santander this season during the first half of Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Alaves.
The Argentine tucked the ball home after Antoine Griezmann‘s initial shot had been parried into his direction by Fernando Pacheco.
However, after VAR alleged that Griezmann was slightly offside during the move, the goal was ruled out and Messi was made to wait.
According to the user @MisterChip on Twitter, nobody has had more goals disallowed by VAR than the Barcelona captain this season.
His tally of three is equalled by Munir El Haddadi at Sevilla and Raul de Tomas at Espanyol in LaLiga SmartBank.
In any case, Messi wasn’t deterred by the VAR call against Alaves, scoring two valid goals before the evening was out.
