Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Did not train on Wednesday

Messi ruled out of Supercopa semi-final against Real Sociedad

Lionel Messi will not play in Barcelona‘s Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Real Sociedad on Wednesday night due to some discomfort.

The 33-year-old did not take part in Barcelona‘s light training session on Wednesday morning, which immediately set off the alarms. Messi hopes to play in Sunday’s Supercopa final against either Real Madrid or Athletic Club, should the Catalans advance past La Real.

It was during last weekend’s 4-0 win away at Granada that Messi began to really notice this discomfort in the back of his thigh, which caused him to ask Ronald Koeman if he could be brought off. He tried to run it off to start with but was the pain remained, so he was replaced midway through the second half.

It all seemed like nothing to worry about, as Messi was included in the squad list for the Supercopa semi-final. However, during Tuesday’s training session, he noticed the discomfort again and decided not to train on Wednesday.

It was subsequently decided that Messi will not play against Real Sociedad, which is disappointing news for both the Argentine and Barcelona. The last few games has seen the Blaugrana hit some form, with Messi being integral in that.

In fact, in their last two league games against Athletic Club and Granada, Messi scored a brace in each game to move to the top of the Pichichi charts. We will have to see how Barcelona react without their captain.
