Lionel Messi won’t be available for Barcelona when they take on Elche this weekend. The two-match suspension given to the No.10 after his Supercopa de Espana final red card has been confirmed.

Barcelona had appealed to the Spanish football federation’s competition committee, but they’ve rejected the Catalan club’s arguments and maintained the two-game suspension.

The first part of this was served in the Thursday night Copa del Rey match against Cornella, which Messi wasn’t expected to play. Now, the second part of the ban will be served when the Blaugrana visit Elche this Sunday.

The forward will then be able to return for Barcelona‘s Copa del Rey match next midweek. They’ll find out their opponent for the last 16 in Friday’s draw.
