Looking to continue on what has been a real purple patch, Monaco will make the trip to the Stade de la Mosson when they face off against a struggling Montpellier on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, throwing away the lead and eventually having to settle for a 1-1 draw against relegation scrappers Nantes on home soil last weekend, Montpellier find themselves in the midst of a real blip. Freefalling their way down the Ligue 1 table and watching their European ambitions take a real dent, it appears that the pressure is really mounting on Head Coach Michel Der Zakarian. Drastically struggling with their form on either side of the festive break, La Paillade have failed to win any of their last five top-flight contests on the bounce, mustering just a pair of points. Facing a stern test at the Stade de la Mosson on Friday night, Montpellier also hold a reputation for their continued issues on home soil. Including a 2-0 defeat against Metz last month, they have failed to record a single home victory since November 22nd.
As for the visitors, while Montpellier might be in the midst of an extended blip, the mood in Monaco’s camp should be at a real high. Appearing to have found their feet under new boss Niko Kovač, Les Monégasques were last seen putting on another eye-catching performance. Storming their way to a 3-0 romp at home against Angers last weekend, the former Bayern Munich boss has seen his side really impress either side of France’s festive break. Skyrocketing their way up the Ligue 1 table and with a Champions League return at the top of their agenda, Monaco are unbeaten in their last four top-flight appearances, collecting 10 points. With that run highlighted by an action-packed 5-2 victory away at Lorient in their last contest on the road, there is no doubt that the resurging outfit will be looking to make a similar statement on Friday night.
