Premier League German suggested he’d rather retire than join Spurs
Despite the fact he is on the cusp of leaving the club, Mesut Ozil remains popular amongst Arsenal supporters, yet in the wake of suggesting he would rather retire than sign for the Gunners’ biggest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho has confirmed he isn’t even interested in him.
In classic Mourinho fashion, he simply couldn’t resist a dig at the player he coached at Real Madrid.
“Who told him that Tottenham is interested in signing him?” Mourinho replied in his pre-match press conference.
This wasn’t the first instance of controversy between Mourinho and Ozil.
An infamous row in the dressing room at half-time in a match at Madrid put their relationship at breaking point, as was detailed in Ozil‘s book.
“Do you think giving two good passes is enough? Do you think you’re so good that giving 50 percent of passes well is enough?” Mourinho was quoted as shouting.
“Are you giving up now? You are a coward, what do you want?
“Take a hot shower and wash your hair, do you want to be alone or do you want to show your teammates, fans and yourself what you can do for me, you’re a crybaby, go to the shower, we don’t need you.”
