Australian Open Spaniard into third round
Rafa Nadal is continuing his Australian Open campaign, as the Spaniard booked his place in the third round after easing past Michael Mmoh in the second round.
In defeating Mmoh on Wednesday, Nadal secured his placed in the third round of the tournament for the 15th time in his career.
It was an easy victory in the end as he won 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3, securing the victory in straight sets within just 1 hour and 47 minutes.
The night match in Melbourne on an indoor court made the surface play slower, although Mmoh couldn’t take any advantage of the change in climate.
At just 23 years old, Mmoh is 177th in the world rankings, and had only previously won three matches in Grand Slam tournaments before his defeat to Nadal.
Nadal was careful with his effort levels, keeping his serve lower than the average speed of about 20 kilometres per hour, with the veteran looking to save his best tennis for the later rounds.
His next opponent will be Cameron Norrie of Great Britain, after he defeated Roman Safiullin in the second round.
