Australian Open Through to second round
Rafael Nadal has qualified for the second round of the Australian Open after beating Laslo Djere in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-1).
The Serbian, No.56 in the ATP rankings, wasn’t a match for Rafa Nadal as the Spaniard didn’t seem to go above second gear, winning in just an hour and 52 minutes.
Despite having ongoing back problems, Nadal reached an average serve speed of 178 km per hour.
“It was about surviving and that is what I have done, I am still alive here and I want to be in Australia for as long a possible,” said Nadal after the match.
Nadal will face America’s Michael Mmoh in the next round of the competition on Thursday who came back in style to beat Viktor Troicki in five sets.
