New Balance strike deal to become AS Roma’s new kit manufacturer

Roma have struck a deal with New Balance which will see the global sport’s brand become the club’s new kit manufacturer from the 2021/22 season.

Effective from July 2021, Roma will become the first side in Serie A to wear New Balance apparel, following in the footsteps of Japanese side FC Tokyo, who unveiled their own new agreement with New Balance in December 2020.

The deal was confirmed using a specially made AR filter game on Instagram which allowed fans around the world to see the streets of Rome and discover the New Balance sponsorship, all while collecting footballs and other club items to boost their scores.

“This agreement represents an important step for the club and our ambitions to continue growing,” said Roma CEO Guido Fienga. “New Balance are globally recognised as leaders in their industry and we are convinced this new partnership will mark the start of many great new opportunities for our brand.

“We are delighted to entrust the creation of our kits to them, and cannot wait to see AS Roma players wearing the new shirts.”

Alongside shirts, New Balance will also be responsible for the manufacturing of all matchday apparel and training wear, all of which fans will be able to pick up in New Balance stores across the globe.

General Manager of New Balance Football, Kenny McCallum said: “We are delighted to have AS Roma join the New Balance family. This is more than a football club; the Giallorossi have a unique voice in the game that demonstrates a true sense of social responsibility and community.

“We are immensely proud to be working with the Club, to bring our innovative approach to kit design and development to the beautiful world of calcio.”

Roma will join the likes of Porto, Athletic Club and LOSC Lille in working with New Balance, who also work closely with Liverpool winger Sadio Mane.
