New York Red Bulls 1-1 Columbus Crew: Player ratings as Nagbe earns Crew a point

The Columbus Crew held the New York Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon after Eloy Room’s own goal was canceled out by a swift ball in by defender Darlington Nagbe.

The New York Red Bulls dominated for the majority of the match, but couldn’t manage a goal until the 84th minute. Though it’s credited to the Columbus Crew goalkeeper, it was Lewis Morgan’s corner kick that inspired Tom Barlow and Aaron Long to keep the ball by the right post before a shot deflected off of Room and into the net.

It looked like the game was over and the Crew’s destiny sealed, but Gyasi Zardes and Nagbe had other plans.

Zardes, who came off the bench late into the second half, inspired the last offensive threat of the game by gaining possession and running through the right side before switching the field. Once inside the box, Nagbe found the ball and tapped it past goalkeeper Carlos Miguel Coronel for the equalizer.

Notable Crew star Lucas Zelarayan limped off the pitch in the last few minutes of the match with an injury.

The Columbus Crew go into week 5 of the MLS season with two victories and two draws, while the Red Bulls walk away with two wins, one draw and one loss.
