Neymar has confirmed that he will be linking up with close friend Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain next season.
The Argentine reached a total agreement with PSG on Tuesday morning and soon hopped on a flight over to the French capital to put pen to paper on a two-year contract worth close to £35m per season.
A big part of Messi‘s decision was the chance to link up with Neymar, who has spoken publicly about his desire to play alongside his former teammate for 12 months now. 90min understands Neymar was constantly in the ear of those in charge at the Parc des Princes to try and make sure a move for Messi did not fall apart.
Neymar has finally got his wish, and he took to Instagram to confirm just how excited he was to reunite with his friend.
Watching a goal compilation of himself and Messi from their time in Barcelona, Neymar wrote ‘back together’ alongside two hearts, tagging the 34-year-old in the post to remove any doubt over what this was about.
Alongside the chance to work with Neymar, Messi is keen to link up with fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino and join a team who should be genuine competitors for the Champions League next season – something Messi confessed he wished he could have done with Barcelona.
“I would have liked to win another Champions League,” he said in his goodbye speech to Barcelona. “We were knocked out in the semi-finals by Liverpool and Chelsea. There were times when we could have won again, but that’s football for you.
“I don’t regret anything. I always gave my best. I think we could have won one more, but I achieved my goals. It’s always nice to win more titles, but I’m ending my career here with a good number of trophies anyway.”
With a front three of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, it’s pretty safe to say that PSG will be among the favourites to go all the way in Europe this season.
