Nottingham Forest set to confirm Moussa Niakhate signing from Mainz

Nottingham Forest are set to confirm the signing of Mainz captain Moussa Niakhate, 90min understands.

The 26-year-old has been at the Bundesliga side for the past four seasons, during which time he has racked up 135 appearances in all competitions.

Last campaign he netted four times, helping Mainz secure an impressive eight-placed finish ahead of the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.

Although predominantly used as a centre-back, Niakhate has also filled in on the left side of defence during his career.

90min understands that Forest have agreed a €15m (£12.8m) fee with Mainz and the deal is set to be announced in the near future.

As well as featuring prominently for his club side in recent years, Niakhate has also been capped 11 times by France Under-21s – though a senior call-up has so far eluded him.

He becomes Forest’s fourth signing of the transfer window and their second recruit from the Bundesliga after they previously secured a deal for Union Berlin frontman Taiwo Awoniyi.

Right-back Giulian Biancone has also joined from Troyes while Dean Henderson has arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

90min understands that Forest are confident that they can add Neco Williams to their list of new signings before the close of the transfer window.
