Nuno Espirito Santo praises Harry Kane following Wolves win

Nuno Espirito Santo has praised Harry Kane for helping Tottenham beat Wolves 1-0 on Sunday.

Kane came on as a late substitute and, despite making it clear that he wants to leave the club, received applause from the traveling support. He almost scored too, only to have his effort kept out by Jose Sa.

After the game, in which Dele Alli scored the only goal from the penalty spot, Santo toasted Kane’s contribution.

“He did well, he helped the team. He is still in the process of improving his fitness. But he is one of the best players in the world. You can see he helped the team in possession,” he said.

Espirito Santo was also pleased to see the fans reacting positively to their talisman’s return.

“I was pleased with the attitude of the fans,” he said. “We have to be together. We have amazing fans and have to be thankful for that.”

Kane is still not match fit after enduring a disrupted pre-season. He did not start training until this week after being forced to isolate following his return from holiday.

“He’s better today and he’ll be better tomorrow,” Nuno said of Kane’s fitness. “He can still improve, we cannot put a bar on that.”

Kane will be in contention to feature in the second leg of Spurs’ UEFA Conference League play-off against Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday. However, Santo refused to confirm whether he would be named in the squad. Spurs go into the return fixture 1-0 after a pitiful display in Portugal last week.

Although 90min understands that Tottenham are committed to keeping Kane at the club, City remain interested and still believe they can sign him before the close of the transfer window. The player himself is extremely eager to move but he has been left in limbo by the Citizens’ reluctance to pay Spurs’ asking price.
