Real Madrid – La Liga Just five minutes in last five games
Real Madrid’s latest draw, against Osasuna on Saturday night, provided plenty of conclusions, one of which was the fact that Zinedine Zidane appears to lack of faith in his bench.
The Frenchman only made three of his five available changes and, once again, Martin Odegaard didn’t make an appearance.
In the last five matches, the Norwegian has featured for just five minutes in total. Those five minutes came against Celta Vigo while he didn’t leave the bench in any of the other four.
There are several possible theories that could explain just why Zidane has limited the Norwegian’s playing time.
The most likely explanation is the fact that Odegaard got injured in December and Zidane is therefore simply being careful with him. After all, before that injury, Odegaard had featured in the three previous matches.
Another reason is that Luka Modric is back to his best, making it tough for the youngster to win a place in midfield that also features the indispensible duo of Toni Kroos and Casemiro.
The same is the case for Fede Valverde and Isco, who have also struggled for minutes.
This is obviously not good news for Odegaard, who returned to Real Madrid last summer when he had the option of another loan season at Real Sociedad.
In San Sebastian, the Norwegian was a regular and, arguably, the team’s star man, scoring four goals and making five assists.
At Real Madrid, he has played just 232 minutes this season and has yet to register a goal or an assist.
