Real Madrid – La Liga Zidane doens’t count on the full-back
Last January, he left for Bayern Munich after playing just five games across all competitions between August and the transfer window opening. This season, though, he record is even worse.
Odriozola has played just 57 minutes so far this season, and he now finds himself as Zidane‘s fourth choice at right-back. Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez, and Nacho Fernandez are all ahead of him.
He hasn’t had things his own way at all. He suffered an injury at the worst possible time, leaving him out of action when Carvajal was unavailable, and both Lucas and Nacho took their chances.
His only appearance this season came on September 30, when he played 57 minutes in a 1-0 win over Real Valladolid. Since, he hasn’t played a second and has sat on the bench for seven straight games now without even warming up.
It’s clear that Zidane sees no place for him in his team. He has just six appearances at Real Madrid since September 2019, and even in his loan spell at Bayern he added just 179 minutes across five appearances.
With just 11 appearances and 670 minutes to his name in the last year and a half, Odriozola will be hoping to find a place where he’ll play more regularly in this January transfer window.
