Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues update on Paul Pogba future

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he has held “positive” talks with Paul Pogba regarding his Manchester United future.

Pogba has just one year left to run on his contract at Old Trafford and rumours about a potential exit next summer are rife. Real Madrid are long-term admirers, while Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested as well. Former club Juventus have also been linked with a move in the past.

However, with United making several exciting signings this summer, Pogba remaining at the club beyond the end of next season cannot be ruled out. Solskjaer gave an update on the midfielder’s future while speaking to the media before his side’s friendly against Everton on Saturday.

“I hope every player thinks this is the place to be to win trophies. When you sign for Manchester United, you have to rise to the challenge. Paul has come back and he’s fresh and he’s always such a positive boy. The talks I’ve had with him have all been positive,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Star (via the Express).

Pogba featured prominently last season, making 42 appearances in all competitions and helping United secure a second place Premier League finish as well as reach the Europa League final where they lost on penalties to Villarreal.

That defeat continued the club’s trophy drought but there is real hope that could end this campaign. United have been active in the transfer window so far, signing long-term target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

Their Premier League campaign kicks off on Saturday 14 August when they host old rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford. Neither Varane nor Sancho will start the game and there are also doubts over the availability of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Fred. The quintet have only just returned to training following their involvement in international tournaments over the summer.
