Competition: Brazil Serie A
Market: Palmeiras win
Odds: 3/2 @ 888sport
Looking to lay down another marker this weekend, a high-flying Palmeiras will make the trip to hometown strugglers Sao Paulo late on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Sao Paulo might have managed to pick up a much-welcomed Copa Libertadores victory away at Racing Club, Hernán Crespo’s side failed to keep up that momentum last time out. Putting in what many across Brazil are branding a season-worst display, the former AC Milan striker saw his side get hit with a 5-1 drumming away at Flamengo. Still firmly battling it out at the foot of the table and opening Saturday’s contest sat in the drop zone, Sao Paulo have also gained a reputation for their continued inconsistencies on home soil. Last seen at the Morumbi suffering a deserved 1-0 loss against Fortaleza, Crespo’s squad have recorded just a single top-flight victory at home since opening the 2021 campaign.
As for the visitors, while Sao Paulo might have continued to show a host of issues since opening the new season, Palmeiras are in the midst of what has been a stellar purple patch. Last seen landing what was an eye-catching 1-0 victory against Fluminense on home soil, Palestra already find themselves leading the chase at the top of the table. Making the trip to the Morumbi this weekend holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table, Head Coach Abel Ferreira should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Managing to extend on their Copa Libertadores run with a 2-0 aggregate victory against Universidad Católica earlier in the month, Palmeiras have in fact won each of their last nine straight matchups across all formats over the past five weeks.
