Transfer Market – Sevilla Spanish club negotiating with Atalanta
Sevilla look to be in a good position to land Atalanta attacking midfielder Papu Gomez, with the player having made his desire to join clear to the club and his agents.
The 32-year-old wantaway Argentine is not short of suitors, with lucrative offers from MLS on the table as well as interest from other top Italian clubs.
Atalanta don’t want to sell to a Serie A rival, however, and the player wants to keep playing at a high level, giving Sevilla a double advantage.
Julen Lopetegui is keen to add a player who can play between the opposition lines and make decisive passes in the final third.
Monchi has begun negotiations with Atalanta and, with the player having already consented, Lopetegui could get his man.
The big stumbling block is the financial side of things, not because Sevilla are unable to pay the 10 to 12 million euros the Italian club are looking for, but because the amortisation time would be short on a player who turns 33 next month.
Monchi is hoping he could get the player for closer to 6m euros plus incentives as negotiations continue.
