Pedri reveals what he likes about Jude Bellingham

Pedri has revealed he hopes to face Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham in the future, naming him as his favourite of his fellow Golden Boy nominees.

Pedri won the award for 2021 – also scooping France Football’s Kopa Trophy – beating second placed Bellingham with 318 points to 119, having enjoyed a remarkable breakout year with Barcelona.

The teenager featured in 52 games in all competitions last season, scoring four goals, and has also become an important part of the Spain squad.

However, when asked which of his young colleagues he has been impressed with the most, Pedri praised Bellingham.

Speaking to Tuttosport, he said: “They are all very good: the first six are born between 2002 and 2004, so they can also be re-nominated. I like Bellingham. Maybe because of his role which is a bit similar to mine. Because of his style, his personality.

“I have never even faced him in the youth squads. I hope the opportunity will arrive soon so at the end of the game I will be able to ask him for his shirt.”

Bellingham has impressed with his excellent midfield play at Dortmund, turning in some performances of note in the Champions League. He is now a regular member of the England squad, featuring at Euro 2020.

Pedri was also told of the gap in voting points between himself and Bellingham, but he shrugged it off, adding: “Oh yes, I saw. But it’s not my ‘fault’. I just have to thank the European jurors of Tuttosport who voted for me en masse.”

Pedri’s Barcelona are next in action on Sunday when they host Osasuna, though the midfielder will not feature due to injury ruling him out until 2022.
