Phelps' former teammate Keller apologises for Capitol breach: I didn't want this to happen

Former Olympic swimmer and ex-teammate of Michael Phelps, Klete Keller, was part of the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6.

After being identified as one of those among the group, Keller has begged for forgiveness.

While Keller has not come out personally to make statements, one of his former coaches spoke to the New York Times about what the former Olympian had told him.

“He apologised to me,” Mark Schubert told the New York Times.

“He kept repeating, ‘You’ve done so much for me, and I let you down.’ He kept saying over and over, ‘I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.'”

Keller‘s life after his swimming career has not been easy, having been left without a job and gone through a divorce.

In addition, Keller suffered from depression after being unable to adapt to his life after his Olympic glory.
