Paris Saint-Germain were rocked by the news that the homes of Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos had been broken into during their match against Nantes on Sunday night, with varying reports circulating about just what was happening inside the properties.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions would ultimately lose the match to Nantes 2-1, as they were unable to capitalise on Lille drawing 0-0 away at Monaco earlier in the day.
For PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, though, his team would have beaten Nantes if it wasn’t for the circumstances surrounding the match.
“We are a united team in which the impact has been for the whole group,” Pochettino said on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday night’s Coupe de France clash against Lille.
“If that hadn’t happened, in the second half we would have won and now we would be in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, we would be top of the league and we would be [about to play in] the Coupe de France.”
“That shows us how everything can change in such a short space of time due to non-sporting things.
“Today the group is better and we hope that tomorrow Angel and Marquinhos can be with us.”
The Argentine coach also confirmed that Neymar‘s return to the squad will be delayed to make sure he is fully recovered.
“The objective is for him to be with the squad as soon as possible, for him to improve every day and to see when he can be available,” Pochettino noted.
“It was obvious that for Ney it was an objective to be against Barcelona, because he was really looking forward to it, but the deadlines were not met. We’ll see if he can be available against Lyon next Saturday.”
