Portugal vs Spain Will face each other on Wednesday night
Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos’ relationship as team-mates came to an end in July 2018 when the former left for Juventus, but they will come head to head for the first time since that date when Portugal face Spain in a friendly in Lisbon on Wednesday night.
The Portuguese forward opted to leave Real Madrid but still retained the utmost level of respect in the dressing room, however the way in which he turned his back on Luka Modric when the Croatian won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 did not go down well with some of his former team-mates at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
There were some exceptions, though, as is the case with Marcelo.
What is peculiar is that, since he left Real Madrid, Cristiano and Ramos have not seen each other and have not maintained contact.
They were team-mates that won so much together at Real Madrid, and on Wednesday they will meet again before the match.
They will no doubt talk and share experiences, but as soon as the match starts they will both look to achieve a victory for their nation, as happened at the World Cup in South Africa, the European Championship in Ukraine and Poland, and any other friendlies between Portugal and Spain.
Cristiano was present at the last Clasico at the Bernabeu, but he arrived with the match about to start and left a few minutes before the end, which means that he was unable to go down to the dressing room and see his former team-mates and coaches. Los Blancos won that game 2-0 thanks to goals from Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz.
If Cristiano has a colder relationship with some of those he shared a dressing room with, it is not the same with Real Madrid’s leaders, especially with Florentino Perez, with whom he has a special bond.
