Premier League goals of the week – gameweek 25

Another week, another handful of screamers for us to enjoy in the Premier League.

Gameweek 25 offered up 19 goals from just nine games, and of those 19, we’ve picked the six that deserve to live in your memory for a little while.

Let’s dive in.

Jadon Sancho is flying right now.

While this finish is not particularly impressive in itself, it’s the build-up play that makes the goal so special. Marcus Rashford’s run and cross are both perfect, but that pass from Bruno Fernandes? Wow.

Fernandes cuts through the Southampton defence with pinpoint accuracy, and Rashford puts it perfectly on a plate for Sancho to open his Old Trafford account for Man Utd.

There’s no need to take a touch to control the ball when you can guide it into the top corner with this kind of precision straight off the bounce.

The cross comes in from the right and you can just tell what Neal Maupay wants to do. He’s winding up for what feels like an eternity, and when the ball drops, he just strokes it perfectly past Ben Foster.

He wants an Argentina call-up, and goals like this will only aid the Brighton man’s cause.

Raheem Sterling bagged a hat-trick against Norwich City, with all three goals getting progressively worse. Fortunately, they started off with a banger.

Kyle Walker’s cross fizzed through the box and wasn’t cleared by Norwich, who could only watch on as it dropped to Sterling’s boot. A few touches to set himself, and the England man bent home a glorious effort which left former Man City youngster Angus Gunn with no chance.

A decent header and a penalty rebound followed for Sterling, who managed to complete the perfect hat-trick in the process.

Kieran Trippier’s lasting memory of this game will be the broken bone in his foot, but only something that serious could detract from his second free-kick goal in consecutive games for Newcastle.

There’s nothing graceful about this goal, however. The right-back walks up to the ball and just smacks it. He smacks it so hard that Emi Buendia can’t get out of the way in the wall and Emi Martinez barely has time to blink in goal.

It loses a mark because of the deflection, but we won’t hold that against him. Get well soon.

An apparent determination to only half-save everything from Hugo Lloris was punished by Raul Jimenez just six minutes into Wolves‘ 2-0 win over Spurs.

The second of two over-the-top flaps from Lloris dropped towards Jimenez, who brought the ball down on his chest and thundered a volley past the Frenchman.

The technique to control it was impressive enough, but time seemed to slow down as he waited for it to drop to his boot. Picture perfect.

Jarrod Bowen is on fire. Pass it on.

Don’t sleep on the sumptuous ball over the top from Issa Diop, but Bowen made this moment his own with yet another act of sheer class to temporarily fire West Ham ahead in their 2-2 draw with Leicester.

One touch to steady himself and one to fire past Kasper Schmeichel. Football really is a simple sport when done right.
