Premier League team of the week: Gameweek 12

So, this week was… eventful.

Saturday was overflowing with goals – 30 in just eight games – and there was some cracking matches to enjoy. Liverpool thumped Arsenal 4-0 and Manchester United were beaten so badly by Watford that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was out of a job less than 24 hours later.

Sunday wasn’t half bad either, with Man City seeing off Everton and Tottenham enjoying their first win of the Antonio Conte era.

Here’s 90min‘s team of the week for matchday 12.

Emiliano Martinez (GK) – Excellent saves to deny Leandro Trossard and Tariq Lamptey should help Martinez rediscover his best form for Aston Villa.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – Two more assists for Alexander-Arnold, who already has six for Liverpool this season.

Thiago Silva (CB) – Antonio Rudiger got on the scoresheet for Chelsea, but it was Silva who stole the show. He was defensively excellent in the 3-0 win over Leicester and pulled off some outrageous passes.

Tyrone Mings (CB) – A goal and a clean sheet for Mings against Brighton, what more could you ask for?

Sergio Reguilon (LB) – Joao Cancelo’s assist nearly earned him a spot in this team, but Reguilon wins out following his crucial goal against Leeds.

N'Golo Kante

N”Golo Kante (CM) – Up against his former employers, Kante was absolutely dominant. He hoovered up possession for Chelsea as always, but made his mark with a gorgeous strike from range.

Rodri (CM) – Speaking of gorgeous strikes from range, Rodri could have taken Jordan Pickford’s head off with his ferocious effort.

Billy Gilmour (CM) – Gilmour ran the show on his return to Norwich’s starting lineup. How Daniel Farke couldn’t fit him into his plans is anyone’s guess.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling (RW) – Amid all the uncertainty about his future, Sterling put in an excellent showing as City thumped Everton 3-0.

Emmanuel Dennis (ST) – Every Watford forward could have got in this team for the ruthless way in which they picked Man Utd apart, but we’ve gone for Dennis, whose tireless work was rewarded with a goal late on.

Sadio Mane (LW) – Inspired by the touchline scrap between Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta, Mane went on to bag a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Arsenal.
