Real Madrid Defenders missed out as precaution
Real Madrid returned to training at Valdebebas on Sunday following their defeat to Athletic Club in the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana.
Neither Sergio Ramos nor Raphael Varane were involved, having both ended Thursday’s match in Malaga with fitness issues.
Ramos played through the loss to Athletic with a knee injury, which almost prevented him from taking part after he felt it in the warm-up.
As for Varane, he was forced off at half time at La Rosaleda after suffering a knock to his right foot, with Nacho coming on in his place.
Both centre-backs underwent tests on Friday, which didn’t reveal any serious injuries for either player. However, the club decided not to risk their fitness and kept both of them in the gym on Sunday.
Dani Carvajal did join Zinedine Zidane‘s squad for training after missing the Supercopa with a muscle problem.
Rodrygo Goes wasn’t involved on Sunday as he continues to recover from his long-term injury.
Zidane‘s side are now preparing for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey tie away at Segunda B side Alcoyano.
