PSG predicted lineup vs Lyon – Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain venture into the French Alps for a Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday night.

PSG’s outspoken new coach Luis Enrique is not afraid to trust young players, if anything, he prefers them.

“Youth gives you freedom because you are not yet aware of the consequences,” the former Spain manager once explained. Only Toulouse have named a younger team in Ligue 1 than PSG thus far this season.

Here’s the invariably youthful XI that Enrique may plump for on Sunday night.

Kylian Mbappe

GK: Gianluigi Donnarumma – At the start of Enrique’s reign, rumours swelled that Donnarumma’s place was under threat. Yet, the Italian has started every game this season.

RB: Achraf Hakimi – The Spanish-born Morocco international will be able to have a fluent conversation with Enrique about knocking his Spain side out of the 2022 World Cup. It was Hakimi’s Panenka penalty that decided the shootout after all.

CB: Marquinhos – Only Marco Verratti, who does not seem to be part of Enrique’s plans, has played for PSG longer than Marquinhos.

CB: Milan Skriniar – Once it became clear that Skriniar would move to PSG on a free transfer this summer, he started just three games for Inter after January.

LB: Lucas Hernandez – The French World Cup winner had never played in Ligue 1 before arriving in Paris in July.

CM: Warren Zaire-Emery – The ultimate example of Enrique’s faith in youth, Zaire-Emery has started all three league games despite being born after YouTube was launched.

CM: Manuel Ugarte – Barely a month after making his debut, Enrique has already lauded Ugarte as “very important for the team”.

CM: Vitinha – The technically tidy midfielder didn’t misplace his first pass for PSG until his second appearance for the club, going through the entirety of his debut without putting a foot wrong.

RW: Ousmane Dembele – On his only previous appearance at the Groupama Stadium, Dembele and his Barcelona side failed to score in the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie in 2019.

ST: Marco Asensio – Enrique has exploited Asensio’s versatility for Spain and now PSG. “I can play in all attacking positions,” the forward explained. “Up front, right, left or behind. He likes dynamic players who can move, without having a fixed position.”

LW: Kylian Mbappe – Exiled at the start of the summer window, Mbappe is back in the fold and may even sign a new contract extension this term.
