PSG trying to entice Kylian Mbappe with short-term contract extension

Paris Saint-Germain are continuing to try and convince Kylian Mbappe to extend his contract, even if it’s only for the short-term – though Real Madrid remain confident of landing him for free this summer.

The 23-year-old is in the final six months of his deal and has long been expected to walk away and join Real Madrid in the summer. Los Blancos tried to buy him outright last year but saw bids well in excess of £100m turned down by PSG.

Nevertheless, Real remain confident that Mbappe will pack his bags and head to Madrid, despite PSG‘s latest attempt to get a new contract signed.

French news outlet Telefoot report that PSG are trying to engage with Mbappe over a new short-term deal, which would ensure that Real would have to pay some kind of fee to take him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Telegraph add that Mbappe is not completely against the idea of prolonging his stay at PSG, though whether or not he does so is another story.

PSG director Leonardo previously revealed that Mbappe had vowed never to leave the club for free, suggesting that he could ink an extension purely to ensure Real have to pay some kind of fee.

But he’s long flirted with the idea of joining Carlo Ancelotti’s side and 90min understands that Real are not concerned by the latest developments. They remain confident that Mbappe wants to join them and will allow him to make a decision in his own time.

Mbappe’s situation at PSG is similar to that of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, with neither club keen to say goodbye to their prized assets for any less than their true worth. Ultimately, the clubs may not have a say – the former can walk away for free this summer should he wish, while the latter has a £63m release clause in his contract that will almost certainly be activated.
