Competition: EFL Cup
Market: QPR win
Odds: 1/1 @ 888sport
In what is a London derby on Wednesday night, QPR will be looking to extend on their EFL Cup adventure when they travel to Brisbane Road in midweek.
Starting with the hosts, while Leyton Orient might have signed off their pre-season preparations with back-to-back wins, new boss Kenny Jackett will know that his side were lucky to pick up a point over the weekend. Opening this year’s League Two campaign away at Salford, the former Portsmouth coach saw his side throw away the lead in a contest that they were heavily outplayed in. Knowing that they should face another stern test when their Championship opponents travel to Brisbane Road in midweek, The O’s did show a host of issues at the back end of the 2020/21 campaign. Losing each of their final four fourth-tier contests on the spin last season, Jackett will know that his side must make some real improvements if they’re to mount a serious play-off charge this time around.
As for the visitors, while QPR might have also opened up their new campaign with a 1-1 draw on home soil, Mark Warburton’s side did put in a largely impressive display. Coming from behind against London rivals Millwall on Saturday afternoon, The Hoops enjoyed what was an eye-catching summer run in preparation for the 2021/22 season. Picking up what was a real morale boost as they landed an action-packed 4-2 win against former Premier League champions Manchester United, QPR also signed off their preparations with a dramatic 3-3 draw against European outfit Leicester. Winning each of their last three Championship away days last season and smelling a real chance on Wednesday night, we’re backing an away with for Warburton’s men across the capital.
