NWSL side Racing Louisville announced Kim Björkegren as the team’s newest head coach heading into the 2022 season.
Björkegren most recently coached in Cyprus. He is the only Swedish Manager besides Sven-Göran Eriksson to win two domestic titles in two different countries, winning Damallsvenskan with Linköpings FC in 2017 and Cypriotic League in 2020-21 with Apollon Ladies FC.

The 39-year-old coach is ready to head to Louisville to start a new journey in NWSL.
“I’m super excited about joining Racing Louisville FC,” Björkegren said. “I have had great talks with the ownership and James O’Connor over the past months and feel like the entire club is breathing optimism. I’m looking forward to working with the entire organization toward our common goals.”
The decision was made after an international search, as well as interviews with Racing Louisville players. The club is looking to improve ahead of its second season in NWSL.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Kim and his family to Racing Louisville. We performed an exhaustive search looking for someone who has a history of winning and developing players,” executive vice president of development James O’Connor said.
“Kim stood out on both counts as the outstanding candidate. He made an instant impact on the group of players who we involved in the process, and we can’t wait to introduce him to the entire Racing family.”
Racing’s Nadia Nadim worked with Björkegren as a personal coach for three years, prior to her move from Paris Saint-Germain to Racing Louisville.
“Kim is a great coach — very smart, tactical, reads and understands the game quickly and has the character to make tough decisions,” Nadim said. “I’m looking forward to working with him to grow as a team and as a player.”
Racing Louisville finished 9th in its inaugural NWSL season in 2021, firing head coach Christy Holly in August. The team will select 2nd and 4th overall in the upcoming NWSL Draft.
