Raheem Sterling hesitant on committing future to Manchester City

Raheem Sterling is unsure about his Manchester City future and wants to see where he fits into Pep Guardiola’s plans before deciding on a new contract.

City and Sterling were close to agreeing a new deal 12 months ago, but those talks were put on hold earlier this year.

Sterling played his part in City’s romp to the Premier League title last season, but was not always selected for their biggest games down the stretch.

He went on to play a starring role at Euro 2020 for Gareth Southgate’s England as he helped them to the final, while City were preparing bids for Three Lions teammates Jack Grealish and Harry Kane.

It was reported earlier this summer that Sterling was offered to Tottenham as part of the Kane bid, though City have denied that he has ever been available for transfer.

Arsenal made an enquiry about Sterling and were not met with a resounding no by City, and it is this lack of certainty that has put doubts in the mind of the forward.

However, City have approached Sterling to rekindle talks following the Euros, insisting they want him to stay and give him a new contract. City have told Sterling and his camp that he remains firmly in their plans even if they land Grealish and Kane.

A source has told 90min that Sterling is happy at City and is not actively looking to leave, but he wants to know that he is still a big part of their plans.

Sterling recognises that he is where is today because of City and Guardiola, but doubts have crept into his mind regarding his place in the side long-term.

Sterling currently has two-years left on his deal which is worth around £300,000-a-week, and 90min understands that he wants a deal similar to that of their leading earner Kevin De Bruyne, who just agreed terms worth in the region of £380,000-a-week.
