Kylian Mbappe spoke after Paris Saint-Germain’s 4/0 win over Montpellier on Friday and set the record straight over his future at the French club.

The World Cup winner said that he was in contract negotiations with the club and that, if a new deal is reached, then other clubs should forget about securing his signature as he would be set to stay in Paris for many years.

All eyes, naturally, turned to Real Madrid, where they’ve been keeping tabs on the forward’s contractual situation in France for some time now.

Mbappe wanted to silence the rumours. There has been a lot of speculation over his future in recent weeks and a lot of talk about his form, his desire to play and even his relationship with new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Real Madrid are certainly interested in the player, but have always recognised that any move would be done through the proper channels and by speaking to the PSG owners.

They know at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu that if there were to be no agreement between Mbappe and PSG and if he were to be put on the market then Los Blancos would be the first club to know, due to the good relationship they have with the French side.

Florentino Perez is well aware of the situation with Mbappe. The first thing Real Madrid would have to deal with is the financial situation they currently find themselves in. The club would first need to navigate their way out of the financial climate created by the coronavirus pandemic if they want to spend the money necessary to rebuild their side and sign the French forward.

The Parisian side aren’t exempt from the effects of COVID-19 either, with losses of 200 million euros being rumoured.

All Real Madrid can do for the moment is wait for news from Paris over the player’s contract talks, as the outside ‘guest’ looking on.

There are also rumours of Lionel Messi moving to Paris, which would raise the wage bill for the French champions.

Sporting director Leonardo told L’Equipe this week that it’s already very difficult for them to pay the wages of two stars such as Neymar and Mbappe. This may mean that if a certain Argentine is to make his way to Paris then someone may have to depart.
