Real Madrid – La Liga Yet to sign contract extension
Florentino Prez and Sergio Ramos.
Real Madrid’s defensive worries in 2020/21 have highlighted just how ill-prepared the club is for Sergio Ramos’ inevitable departure, yet that departure doesn’t have to be as soon as June, and the player’s father has admitted that he is optimistic his son will sign an extension at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Ramos’ absence in key fixtures this season has led to some awful defensive performances, which has surely put pressure on Florentino Perez to get an extension with his captain signed, although LaLiga Santander clubs are being forced to drastically cut costs at this time. “We’re calm and of course I’m optimistic,” Jose Maria Ramos explained in an interview with Jugones.
“We trust that he will stay. “Everything will be fixed.” Ramos cancelled his press conference with the national team on Monday, although indications are that he and Perez are much closer on an agreement than previous thought.
The Real Madrid captain would be free to negotiate with any non-domestic club from January 1, but the player has always shown his desire to retire in the Spanish capital. The difference to this point has been the duration of his new contract, with Los Blancos having historically always looked to give players over 30 years of age a maximum of one additional year. However, Ramos is a unique player and a unique case, he would prefer at least two more seasons with the option for a third which comes into effect in June 2023.
