Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski believes he can continue playing elite level football for ‘at least four more years’, having produced record-breaking figures last season.
The Poland international is now 33 years old, but despite his advancing years, he managed to break Gerd Muller’s 49-year record with the final kick of the 2020/21 campaign, scoring an incredible 41 league goals in a single season for Die Roten.

And before Bayern’s trip to Barcelona for the opening group match of the Champions League, Lewandowski told Sport Bild that he has the physique of a ’25 or 26 year old’, and believes he can continue playing football for ‘at least four more years’.
“I’m in good shape physically and have the right mentality. I can play for many more years, I’m sure at least four more years. And then I will see, maybe I can raise the bar even higher.
“This summer I had the best results of my career. If I was 27 a year ago, I am now either 25 or 26. My stats are better than ever. And it’s not just about fitness. After a four-week break, I had a better base and preparation than ever before. 33 is only a number and does not show how old I really am.”
It’s not the first time Lewandowski has made this declaration, either. Back in 2019, the forward stated that he didn’t feel like he was about to turn 31, and set a target of playing for at least another four years.
“I want to play for at least another four years,” Lewandowski said. “I don’t feel like I’m about to turn 31.
“I’ll try to make the most of my time, and that means keeping myself in the best shape possible.”
Lewandowski backed up his fresh claims by scoring a brace against Barça in Bayern’s 3-0 victory at Camp Nou, helping his side get off to the perfect start in their bid to win the Champions League for the second time in three years.
The Polish superstar is full of confidence heading into the new season, as he is now the proud holder of the record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga campaign. He’ll be hoping to achieve similar numbers this time round, and he’s making good progress, having notched six goals in only four league matches.
