Competition: League Two
Market: Salford win
Odds: 6/5 @ 888sport
Looking to pile even more pressure on the Trotters this week, Salford will make the trip to a downbeat University of Bolton Stadium on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Bolton might have opened the 2020/2021 campaign seen as a standout pick to reclaim their spot in England’s third-tier at the first attempt, it has been a hugely worrying start to the New Year for the Whites. Last seen over the weekend when crashing out of the FA Cup thanks to a 3-2 defeat against Crewe on home soil, Head Coach Ian Evatt finds his side sat way down in 20th and drastically struggling to find any real momentum. Only playing out a 1-1 draw when they faced off against fellow scrappers Mansfield, Bolton have managed to win just a pair of their opening 11 appearances in League Two. With their recent issues highlighted by what was a dreadful 4-0 drumming away at Leyton Orient when closing October, the Whites could be in for another tough test on Friday.
As for the visitors, with Richie Wellens taking over on a permanent basis from Graham Alexander last week, Salford have managed to impress since bringing in the former Swindon boss. Keeping the mood in their camp at a high with a 2-1 win away at Rochdale while on EFL Trophy duties earlier in the week, the Reds also managed to extend on their FA Cup adventure thanks to a 2-0 win against National League outfit Hartlepool over the weekend. With it no secret that the Class of 92 has their sights firmly set on securing a play-off spot this time around, Salford have won three of their last four matchups across all competitions and know that three points on Friday night will see them skyrocket into the top-six.
