Sergio Ramos starts for PSG vs Saint-Etienne

Sergio Ramos is finally set to make his debut for Paris Saint-Germain after being named in the starting lineup for Sunday’s meeting with Saint-Etienne.

The 35-year-old arrived at the Parc des Princes in the summer on a free transfer from Real Madrid, but was carrying a muscle injury when he arrived and had missed his side’s first 19 games of the campaign.

Ramos made it back to the bench for the midweek defeat at the hands of Manchester City, but his debut is now finally here as he has been thrust straight into the starting lineup to face Saint-Etienne.

He takes the place of Presnel Kimpembe, who heads to the bench after an unconvincing showing against City.

On paper, this doesn’t look like a particularly tough challenge for Ramos. Saint-Etienne are 19th in Ligue 1 and have one of the poorest goal records in the entire division, but they are on a run of two straight victories which have lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Former Sunderland man Wahbi Khazri has hit seven goals for Saint-Etienne this season – only three players in the division have managed more this season. He’s tied with PSG‘s top scorer, Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe starts this one as well, flanked by both Neymar and Angel Di Maria, with Lionel Messi in behind in the 10 role.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are looking to bounce back from their midweek disappointment with a victory that would move them 14 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

Saint-Etienne, on the other hand, could climb as high as 15th with an unlikely victory.
