Tottenham forward Son Heung-min left the South Korea squad early to catch a flight back to London on Tuesday, with Spurs keen to have their forward back in good time ahead of Saturday’s tussle with Manchester City.

Son had been away with his national squad, and started the friendly match against Qatar on Tuesday. South Korea went on to win the game 2-1, with Son grabbing himself an assist.

But with Spurs taking on Manchester City in a crucial Premier League game on Saturday they took the decision to send a private jet to pick him up not long after the friendly game with Qatar had finished, according to Goal.

The rest of the players in the squad who ply their trade in Europe are due to stay with the group until Wednesday, before returning to their clubs. However, with such an important match fast approaching for the north Londoners and Jose Mourinho, they decided to bring Son back early. The 28-year-old later posted a picture of himself seemingly at an airport on Instagram ahead of his flight on Tuesday.

Son has been in truly outstanding form in 2020/21 so far, with ten goals and five assists to his name after just 13 games. His link up with striker Harry Kane has been particularly impressive.

His performances have been crucial to Spurs’ hugely impressive form, with Mourinho’s men currently sat second in the table and just one point behind league leaders Leicester. But they will face a major test of their title credentials on Saturday when they welcome Man City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Their next opponents have been somewhat underwhelming in the league so far, and are currently tenth in the table. But Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking to hit the ground running after the international break, and will be looking to pick up all three points against Tottenham.
